The paper is based on the project of Institute of Electronic CAD,"Theoretical Research and Design of Key Technique for Deep-submicron Power Management IC and Mixed IC". A high efficiency adaptive backlight and camera LED controller named XD3313 is proposed in this paper.Firstly, a brief introduction to the hot topic in power management and the meaning of charge pump LED driver is given, based on which the characteristics and the driving methods of White LED are described. Then a system level construction of XD3313 is accomplished by using charge pump DC-DC structure. A dual loop feedback is designed for charge pump LED driver to improve the charge pump design, which greatly enhances the efficiency and achieves the ultra-low input noise and small voltage ripple. Followed are detailed descriptions of sub-blocks with simulation results. Finally, parts of the whole chip performance characteristics and electrical characteristics are given.XD3313 adopts the charge pump DC-DC structure with high efficiency and multi-mode. According to the different use, internal programmable current source can provide 200mA, 600mA and 800mA three types of LED current. XD3313 can offer automatic mode switching among 1×, 1.5×and 2×modes, so it can be used as LED torch/camera light supply for cell phones and other portable equipments with total output current up to 1A.Based on the TSMC 0.6μm CMOS process, simulation results of XD3313 show the excellent performance can meet the prospective specifications.
