Multi-sensor networks which has synthesized sensor techniques, embeddedcomputations, Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems and wireless communication, iscomposed of massive sensor nodes deployed in the monitoring regions, and it cancooperate to complete the real-time monitoring, sensing, gathering of the objectiveinformation, then carries on processing to the gathering information and transmits it tousers. Multi-sensor networks will be one of most important new technologies in thefuture. Its development and extensive applications will have great impact on and gettremendous promotion of human social life and industrial renovation.Because the capability of sensor nodes in sensing, processing and communicatingis very limited, they have to cooperate each other to fulfill the task. Coverage problem,as the main part of cooperative control and the main focus of this thesis, mainly solvesthe problem that taking an effective sensor nodes deployment algorithm in order toguarantee the monitoring regions being observed effectively after sensor nodes beingdeployed stochastically. The main purpose of this thesis is to extend network lifetimebyreducing the volume of communication between sensor nodes. This thesis does the thorough research to the coverage control problem inmulti-sensor networks. A method of sensor nodes deployment based on equilateraltriangle coverage has been proposed through theoretical analysis and geometry proof. This method can cover the monitoring regions completely seamlessly with least sensornodes. In this foundation, k coverage sensor deployment algorithm and k variablecoverage sensor deployment algorithm have been proposed, and the algorithms canrealize k coverage seamlessly to the monitoring regions and k variable coverageseamlesslyin partial regions. The sensor nodes move shortest distance to arrive at the goal vertexes inalgorithms, so the algorithms can save the energy of the sensor nodes effectively, reduce the overall energy consumption of system and lengthen the network lifetime. Finally this thesis carries on algorithms simulation experiment in matlab7.0. Theresults indicate that the algorithms can cover the monitoring regions effectively.
