Low Rate Speech Coding Based On MELP

As an important algorithm of low rate speech coder, MELP (mixed excitation linear prediction) coder is one of the best coders currently. This speech coder is still based on the traditional LPC (linear prediction coder) parametric model, but it's speech synthesis model is rather close to true pronunciation mechanism, integrating the elite of several speech coding technology, such as mixed excitation, multi-band excitation, linear prediction, vector quantization and prototype waveform interpolation. So it's speech quality is improved compared to LPC coder.In this paper, we mainly develop the theory of MELP, including the procedure of coding and decoding. In that time, we also have done the work of simulating analysis. In the end we research the method of completing this arithmetic of MATLAB programming languageOn the basis of deeply studying the MELP algorithm, the paper will at last choose an improved MELP algorithm which can work at the rate of 800bit/s.
