In the past twenty years, the economy of eastern part of China has been developing very fast and demanding more and more electric power supply. But most energy resources of China is in the western part. According to the plan of State Grid Company, more than 20GW power will transmit from the west to east along more than one thousand kilometers distance, more than 15 High Voltage Directive Current (HVDC) power transmission lines will be constructed in the next years, including Ultra-high HVDC (UHVDC) lines. The HVDC transmission has many advantages, such as high-speed controllability, high capacity power transmission, lower-frequency oscillation damping, and the stability of power system improving.To refer to the development of HVDC, this thesis devotes to setup a HVDC physical experimental system for laboratory purpose. The operation characteristics controlled analysis, physical system design are involved.A general overview of the advantage and disadvantage of HVDC technology in power system is presented. The roles of HVDC transmissions and their applications in power grid and their developments are summarized briefly.Due to our national conditions, comparison with traditional HVDC, the application prospect of UHVDC power transmission in transmitting electric power outwards is discussed, and applying UHVDC transmission to construct higher voltage power grid is claimed. Operating mode of±800kV UHVDC transmission system from Yunnan to Guangdong and its control strategy is expounded.The thesis introduces briefly the regulation theory of HVDC and design principle of the hierarchical structure, and proposes a feasible control scheme. Simulation research of HVDC line imitating the HVDC physical simulation circuit has been done using EMTDC. The results demonstrate the control scheme proposed in the thesis is valid.At last, it introduces the HVDC physical experimental setup in our laboratory, and summaries the theory and method of physical imitation, and makes a new designation of HVDC physical simulation system. The system could be operated conveniently, with a visible feature.
