Welding is one of the most important of modern manufacturing technologies. It is essential to improve the stability and reliability of welding quality. Because of economics and technology, basic welding production is manual in our country. The use of automatic welding is the only way to change this situation. The welding robot is the best automation tools to replace manual operation.Planar welding is the most common form in welding production. A Planar welding robot, which is low-cost, universal and reliable, is empoldered accordance with welding technical requirements in this paper. Main contents are:the development trends and application situation of robot technologythe design scheme and objective of welding robot according to the technological requirements of the welding processmechanical structure of the welding robot with multi-degreethe hardware structure of the control system in accordance with the "PC+Motion Control Card" modethe development of motion control system software with Visual Basic languagethe performance test of welding robotExperimental results show that planar uniform-welding seam can be achieved with the welding robot and the control system of the welding robot is reliable and stable.
