With growth of enterprises and promoted application of high technology and automation, computer plays an increasingly important role in enterprise. Its full application provides increase of efficiency for enterprise. Being efficient in production and marketing flows is the precondition and guarantee for an enterprise to get larger benefit. As computer network technology develops and spreads rapidly, the use of sales management information system may connect enterprise with client closely. It is an effective way to accomplish transfer of information flow, cargo flow and capital flow. The sales department of some enterprise is usually composed of a good many distribution branches distributed across different provinces, or even in different countries. The establishment of distributed sales management system is significantly important for reinforcing coordination of outlets, reducing product stocks, speeding up turnover of capital and improving marketing response of enterprise.This article, by giving practical cases of developing sales management information system of machine manufacturing enterprise, has discussed above all the benefits of using intelligent client and web service technology. The system was then designed, on an overall basis, by analyzing the purpose of system development and the to-be-finished major functions, followed by further details on design of functional system modules. An operation flow diagram was used to support the design. Finally, a discussion is given on how to achieve some functions of the system. Using VB.NET as the language for developing the system, the client has adopted smart client technique integrated with advantages of efficient deployment and manageability of BS-structured thin client, and the stability and response speed of CS-structured fat client, being very suitable for distributed management system. The server end uses three-layer structure which divides the system into web service, business logic and database service and caters enough to the need for collective information management of the sales system and the growth of future business.This article has established a distributed sales management information system by comprehensive application of Web service, smart client technology, database, SOAP expansion and network communication technologies, on the basis of analyzing sales management information system, in accordance to operation flow and cored at collective information management.The sales management information system is one of star network structures according to the theory of distributed network. The parent sales company is the core of network, around which are sales branches. All sales branches exchange information with the parent sales company but they do no exchange each other. Such a system is beneficial for supervision and management. The account is simple and clear after such processing. When closing the account in the end of year, sales branches need only to verify the accounting items with the parent sales company.This software system includes nine functional modules of basic information, ordering contract, order management, ordering payment, goods payment management, customer credit evaluation, information search, printing management and updating information. Their functions are of the following:a) Basic information module provides functions of entering and searching customer-related information, outlet staff information, regional information about overall sales network, company department information, information with limited access of related personnel in logging in the system, and information about products and variety supplied by enterprise.b) Ordering contract module contains two sub-modules, ordering information management and canceling. It provides for system users with functions for such as appending, modifying, abolishing, searching and deleting information as well as canceling abolition.c) Order management module is primarily used to manage orders of sales department, reduce workload of sales persons and improve efficiency. As the most important part of the system, the module manages orders that have been confirmed.d) Ordering payment management module is focused on different sequences of payment and delivery according to different requirements of customers. Some enterprises ask for payment after delivery, some during delivery and some prior to delivery. Although the payment may be requested at different stages, however, an enterprise will send a letter of notice to his customer before the payment is made.e) Goods payment management module is configured for acquiring information on whether payment of an order has been received and how much has been receive.f) Customer credit evaluation module is provided for establishing partnership between the company and its traditional customers, and for avoiding risks when the company deals with new customers. It makes comments and records about customers' level of credit.g) Information searching module can help consult and count a variety of information, including statistics of all orders, all paid orders, all unpaid orders, orders fulfilled by sales persons, and sales volume.h) Printing management module aims to printing information. The system provides various searching and statistical functions but it shall not be occupied by someone all the time. In the mean time, some key information need to be presented in hard copies. In this case, printing function is necessary.i) Information updating module serves to upload and download data. The uploading function is used to upload order information of the day, information about canceling an order, information of modifying an order, information on order-charging letter of notice sent on the day, and information of individual payment received on the day. The downloading function is used to download the latest general notices of the company, according to which the list of products, sales schemes, and some marketing information can be downloaded separately.In accomplishment.of this system software, VB2005 was used as the language, Microsoft Visual Studio.Net as the platform for development, and Oracle9i as database. The system uses integrated information technology based on Web service.
