The development of modern remote sensing technology will lead to significant improvement of sensor resolution and spectral resolution. These sensors will increase significantly the satellite imagery data and computer processing operations. The traditional remote sensing image processing systems are facing new challenges.The main topic of this paper is parallel processing technology for remote sensing images,issues related to image processing principles, optimization of the structure and content of a specific algorithm. This paper discuss the parallel remote sensing image processing and analyse a number of key technologies, including parallel processing model, supporting environment, parallel processing of data, task distribution and load balancing. Therefore, we do a lot of research in parallel computing research on the basis of theory and cluster architecture. Considering the characteristics of Modis remote sensing data, we do more in-depth study of parallel computing technology in the application of Modis data preprocessing.First, we discuss the basic knowledge of parallel computing , introducing the cluster system architecture, parallel computing environment, the parallel algorithm design and performance optimization; Second we introduce the basic knowledge of MODIS image preprocessing; Through studying serial algorithm of geometric correction and image histogram, analysing the parallelable part and calculation-intensive part, We design parallel program using the parallel algorithm. Then we discuss the method of how to improve the efficiency of the algorithm from the point of load balancing and communication; Next, we give the experimental results and the method of measuring the efficiency of parallel algorithms, analyse the results; The last chapter of this paper is the summary of our work, and point out the current shortcomings and deficiencies, put forth suggestions for further research work. The content of this paper is of great significance to the progress of research in related fields.
