The traditional vision image system is based on a system which combines"camera, image capturing card and PC". This vision system can't meet the need of real time while processing the image in embedded condition. Therefore, a specialized vision image system should be invented which can not only captures the vision image real time but also handle these data in time. At present, there are many researches which are based on ARM about vision image system. However, they are mainly applied to imaging and identifying system.This paper analyzes the current situation and the future development of vision system at home and abroad. It introduces a vision image display system based on ARM-Linux according to the specific project and reality. This paper makes a detailed introduction to the choice of hardware equipment and operational system and its quality analysis including processor, camera, extended interface, embedded Linux. After analyzing the functions and realization process of each module of the application, the paper offers testing results of each module of the application in the system and improves the performance of arithmetic of the decoding module at the same time. Compared with the traditional vision image display system, this approach has many advantages such as smaller size, lower cost, higher stability and higher quality of real time. And it is very practical. This paper has finished the design of the basic hardware system and research development of the software.The hardware platform core adopts embedded microprocessor S3C2440. It contains a USB camera and a LCD screen of 240x320 resolution ratio. Images captured from the USB camera, analyzed by the application, are displayed on the screen in the end.The software includes two aspects of the transplant of system software and the development of applications. System software includes the transplant of BootLoader and embedded Linux based on ARM and applications includes three parts. They are the design of vision image capturing, the design of JPEG image decode module and the design of the image display module respectively.Finally, this paper tests and summarizes what have been achieved by the system design and also puts forward new thoughts and prospect.
