There is much prospect of the virtual assembly's application to the industry, and strengthening research on virtual assembly technology based on VRML is of great significance.The virtual assembly technology Based on VRML is a particular technology for realization of virtual assembly, and the research on it is developed by linking of the main issues of virtual assembly. Environment modeling, part modeling, sequence planning, path planning and process handling are main issues of virtual assembly. In this thesis, the main issues in virtual assembly sphere were acted as thread, and the trait and resolvent to these issues of virtual assembly based on VRML were analyzed and researched. Establishing a technique scheme of environment modeling of virtual assembly and the methods of transforming VRML model applied to the system from CAD system to virtual assembly system was presented by means of analyzing the connection between VRML and other languages and the construction feature that VRML file should have for realizing virtual assembly. How to develop the key value in the interpolator used of developing VRML mode reassembling animation by product sequence and path planning is discussed. The method of resolving the question of sequence and path planning that assisted of reassembling animation and collision detection was developed. And the method of virtual assembly based on VRML in respect of realization of animation, main interactive function and collision detection was researched and created by means of analyzing and generalizing the classification of interactive model and application method of the three main interactive principle of VRML.In this thesis, the modeling of a reducer and its virtual assembly system are accomplished and the virtual assembly of the reducer was realized. A handy and effective technique of virtual assembly based on VRML was presented by means of the practice of virtual assembly of reducer in this thesis. And by using this technique, it is fastly to build virtual assembly environment and virtual model of mechanical product, to realize the main function of virtual assembly of mechanical product such as adding, removing, motion simulation and collision detection of virtual model, and to accomplish sequence and path planning of product finally.
