This dissertation is based on mine emergency multimedia communication system research and development duty of the State Administration of Work Safety. The main task is to design and test the software system for the 2nd generation mine multimedia emergency communication system, including the problem of video acquisition (including display and transmission), multi-user talk, information recording and repaying. Meanwhile, the achievement of our research work can be applied to other emergency communication system or information acquisition system.At first, the paper analyzed the characteristic and requirements of mine emergency communication. Based on the hardware condition, the software system requirement is Audio/Video multimedia communication and information recording/replaying. So the software system is designed to have 4 main function units: video processing, multi-user talk, information recording, and data replaying. Researched on the theory and implement method of MPEG-4 video compression algorithm and used it to the video processing unit of the software system. Considering the hardware capability and portability, the paper put forward a new implement method of multi-user talk after researching on many network and transmission software. The most important innovation is we canceled the requirement on independent server of common method and it also increases the system utilization rate. The technology of voice activation detective is used here to save system source and bandwidth. The software system also has the function of supporting on USB and serial interface, control of buttons, and detection on battery.After the design work, the software system is transplanted onto embedded windows system, which widened the application field of the software system.After the test, the software system meets the qualification of the 2nd generation mine multimedia emergency communication system. The communication distance reaches 5km. The video resolution is 640×480. The voice quality of multi-user talk reaches the level of telephone. All date can be replayed synchronously. The system occupancy rate is less than 10%, and only 2.5M system RAM is used when the software system is running.
