Since GSM system was launched into business application from 1992, and with its continual development, it has been the most large-scale mobile communication network in all over the nation. To gain the important position within the drastic market competition and improve the customer satisfaction, every telecom operators are all regarding the network optimization as a very important work. So it becomes more and more important to optimize network continuously and to satisfy subscribers' requirements. The thesis focused on paging performance -- the important element in network optimization. To begin with, the network paging process and the application information of its related network resource involved in each network element were introduced and analyzed; the influence of resource configuration on network paging capability was studied. Moreover, the data of network paging success rate in Qinhuangdao was analyzed by means of network statistics, the occupancy condition of the correlated resource equipment and the record of network event log. Then the situation that the paging success rate decreased in the present network was studied in two directions (the network paging load and the network paging capability) so that the project to improve the network paging capability and decrease the correlated signaling load was proposed. Finally the network paging pressure got relieved obviously and the paging success rate got increased significantly. In the last of this thesis, some ideas to increase the paging success rate and lower network paging pressure more securely and some propositions to meet an emergency were introduced on the basis of the future practical development of the network.
