Study On Information Commons Construction In Academic Library

"Information commons"concept originated from "commons" theory which applied in the field of information. Information commons has been introduced to the library and information science. In this field, the vocabulary of"information commons"not only contains the meaning of information sharing, but also specifically refers to a new form of library information services. The information commons is a service mode which supported group learning and personal research, and it also provided a one-stop service that had seamless integration of library technologies and services. For information commons, the library has better meet users'information needs. This is a new opportunity for the development of library.Since the 1990s, information commons in Europe and the United States began the rise in university library, developed rapidly, and now becoming the most popular service model in foreign university libraries. The theory of information commons gets more in-depth than before, and with the development of practice, the information commons model has become mature. By comparison, information commons theory and practice have begun to introduce in Chinese university library in recent years. However, up till now, many researchers have studied with the introduction of the information commons concept, or case studies, few researchers have studied systematically. For this reason, this thesis aims to systemic study the theory and practice of information commons in the domestic and foreign libraries, and according to foreign experience, provides information commons design guidance: Three levels model, and notes the problems which should pay attention to in information commons construction.This thesis has used the research methods, such as network investigations, comparison analysis, charts, case studies etc.This thesis concentrates on two respects mainly. Firstly current situation analysis of Chinese university library construction; Secondly, Learning from foreign information commons building experience, the construction of the concrete implementation Countermeasures and other issues were discussed.The dissertation concluded as follows:(1) Investigated the information commons practice in Chinese Hong Kong, Macao Taiwan and mainland areas. Through specific case studies, summed up the constriction experience, and studied the conditions and inadequate of Chinese information commons construction.(2) From information commons building model: the physical layer, the virtual layer and supporting layer construction, provided design guidance for our university library.(3) Through the foreign study and practice analysis, according information commons status in Chinese university library, notes the problems which should pay attention to in information commons construction.
