With the development of Next Generation Network (NGN) and the widely application of broadband technology, a lot of multimedia information and real time applications in NGN steadily increase. The NGN is becoming an integrated service network for multimedia, such as data, voice, image and real application etc. IP network serves as the carrier for the NGN traffic. In recent years, researchers have introduced some methods in microeconomics to the network resource management and control of NGN. They view communication services as the merchandises in traditional economic domain, and in this way they can refer to economical principals for relevant problems in NGN.Different type of multimedia services has different requirement in Quality of Service (QoS), and its users have different willing to pay. In this thesis, we introduce the concept of price in microeconomics to NGN, and analyze the pricing scheme in NGN from the perspective of service provider's revenue and users' QoS.This thesis firstly introduces the definition, the network framework and the characteristics of NGN. The applications of microeconomics in the NGN are also explained. This thesis gives a detailed analysis and comparison of currently used pricing schemes, which can mainly be categorized into static pricing scheme, dynamic pricing scheme and leveled pricing scheme.Secondly, this thesis gives a modeling of the multimedia services in NGN. We have totally modeled four types of service: value added data service, voice service, video service and common data service.Based on the previous parts, this thesis studies the effect of pricing scheme on the QoS of four types of users. We also analyze the revenue coming from four types of services and the total revenue from the service provider's point of view. This thesis then gives an analysis and comparison of two different pricing schemes. We compare the user blocking rate and packet dropping rate of four types of users under two schemes. We focus on the analysis of throughput of four types of services and revenue of ISP under two pricing schemes. Finally, the thesis is concluded and the future work is proposed.
