Channel coding and decoding module is an important part of the mobile communication system, the thesis presents the main technologies, current situation and evolution of the WCDMA. The key features and evolution process during several phases of the WCDMA are also discussed. The future services and markets that will be occupied by the WCDMA system are involved. The key implementation issues referring to the WCDMA includes turbo code's encoding and decoding technologies, covers the key points of all realizations, Meantime, the thesis has gone into the research of the Turbo code's encoding and decoding theories and methods in detail, and presents the theorotical simulation analysis,and the devised decoding algorithm too.Embedded system is one of the top hot concept,it is also another hot spot in the development of today's electronical technology. The thesis follows on the heels of the trend of the embedded system design technology, introduces a new technology of the embedded system design—the FPGA technology, and applies it to the research of the viterbi decoder. The Nios II processor is the latest technology of the FPGA, and has the characteristic of reconfiguration, which realizes a reconfiguring embedded system by embedding different application IP discreteness including the Nios II soft core into the FPGA.The thesis shows the detailed design modules and the implementation process of the viterbi decoder of channel encoders and decoders in the WCDMA on the basis of the simple introduction of the channel coding and decoding implementation process. At the end of the thesis, the system design is realized and validated successfully, and the test result is analyzed too to verify the correctness of the systematic design and the availability of the SOPC implementation based on the Nios processor. Try the new FPGA technology in the development of software and hardware design, which shortens the design period, saves upgrade cost and optimizes the performance and resources.
