Data structure is an elemental and crucial curriculum in education of computer science and technology. It has abstract and dynamic features. However, to date, methods of instruction have been relatively inefficient. The research of imagery training aims at improving learner's comprehension ability towards database structure and algorithm, and promoting the effect of instruction.Imagery training is the basis of creative mind training, and research towards imagination is a precondition of imaginative thinking. Considerable research has shown that there is a strong correlation between students' scores and imaginative ability and those who have a particularly vivid imagination have advantages. Imagery training lends itself to the process of instruction, because it can visualize and embody the abstract algorithm related to database structure. And learners can memorize and comprehend what they learnt better. Furthermore, imagery training based on a visualized system, can integrate perfectly imaginative thinking with logical thinking so as to help learners improve their ability towards programming effectively.We have developed a demo system based on C language with two modes of training. One is the so-called imagery training in the classroom; the other is the imagery training in programming. Resorting to the two modes and a developed demo system of algorithm in database structure, we can instruct learners to comprehend and memorize the abstract knowledge better in an imaginative manner.Practice in instruction shows that imagery training is favorable to learners' comprehension towards the relationship between algorithm and database structure. Data also indicates that it can improve the effect of instruction in a short or long period.
