Along with the development of the information society, the status of information security in society becomes increasingly important. As the basis and core of information security, cryptography also attracts more and more attention. Brute force attack on symmetric cipher algorithms is an important direction of cryptography. Brute force attack on cipher algorithms uses mainly two methods: (1) Hardware implementation; (2) Software implementation. The paper has realized brute force attack on symmetric cipher algorithms based on software implementation .The main points of this paper are as follow:1. Introduce the basic technology of brute force attack on symmetric algorithms, including the concept of brute force attack and two technical means of realizing brute force attack: (1) Hardware implementation; (2) Software implementation.2. Investigate and study the history and current situation of symmetric cipher salgorithms .Concerned investigation and study mainly focus on block cipher algorithms DES and SMS4 and sequent cipher algorithm RC4.3. Analyze encryption and decryption of the block cipher algorithms, design software to brute force attack on block cipher algorithms. Simulate brute force attack on block cipher algorithms DES and SMS4 in the LAN.4. Analyze encryption and decryption of the sequence cipher algorithms, design software to brute force attack on sequence cipher algorithms. Realize brute force attack on sequence cipher algorithm RC4 in the LAN.
