Process control computers are those computers that control production processes in real time. Their key functions are data collection, calculation, modeling, result display, record tracking, and data interaction between production machines and online production management systems. The operation and maintenance management of process control computers, which is the key component of IT management, is critical to production systems. The operation and maintenance of computers is commonly implemented under the idea of IT Service Management (ITSM). This dissertation is derived from the research on the operation and maintenance management of process control computers in BaoSteel Corp. The statistic data in recent five years demonstrates that the current separated operation mode and the corrective maintenance or periodic maintenance mode have heavily affected the stability of steel production. Therefore, a new management method need be established, which not only takes ITSM idea but also considers the current practice.A centralized operation and maintenance management mode was proposed in this dissertation. Firstly, considering the principle of ITSM, a centralized operation and maintenance platform was established in the whole department, which is made up of network layer, monitoring layer, support layer and management layer. Simultaneously, the implementation of centralized control was guaranteed through the integration and re-layout of computer resource, the establishment of regulations and rules, and the adjustment of organization structure. Secondly, the function of the support layer was studied in detail. The centralized operation and maintenance management information system was devised based on the modularization and process standardization of operation and maintenance work. Thirdly, main work was focused on the IT maintenance module. The maintenance strategy and the maintenance plan were made based on Fuzzy Synthetic Evaluation Model, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA). Finally the knowledge base, which is the foundation of MIS, was developed using ASP.NET and SQL SERVER2000. The three tier application design and B/S service mode were adopted.The research of this dissertation provides powerful technical support for BaoSteel Corp to establish the centralized operation and maintenance management mode. Furthermore, it is helpful for other manufacturers to manage the operation and maintenance of their process control computers.
