Along with the extensive use of laser technique and photo-electronic technique at present, we need the high quality laser in many application fields. It is necessary to measure the technical parameters,which determine laser quality. This thesis is about fundamental parameters of high power laser beam and the measurement methods of laser energy, power, power density and divergence angle in detail.As an effective means laser processing technology develops rapidly at home and abroad. Especially in the near decade the high power laser has already acquired an increasingly extensive application in the industry production and science research, such as the laser incise, weld, the surface heat treatment and so on. From the angle of processing application, the parameters such as laser power, the mode structure of the laser beam, the type of the focusing light spot and so on depend the quality of the processing in direct, and therefore it becomes very important to measure the parameters of the high power laser.This thesis makes a short introduction to the laser processing technology at first. What follows in chapter 2 describe the basic principle, characteristic of laser and the common evaluation parameters of laser beam quality .In the chapter 3 , the methods of each parameter of the laser beam are discussed in detail. In the chapter 4 we achieve the design of power meter by adopting photo-electronic technology, and measure the power of a laser. In conclusion the paper put forward the problems which need further accomplishment and the research target in the next step.
