With the development of this discipline—medical image processing and analysis, many new methods has appeared in the field of image segmentation for medical image. But there is no unique theory and method to segment different object. Many of these image segmentation methods are used in handling for specialized objects. If it is applied to other objects, the segmentation result may not be the ideal one.Based on the current situation and in accordance with practical problems encountered in the doctors's clinical diagnosis in Hai Jun Zong Yi Yuan, a segmentation algorithm for nerve tissue is proposed in this paper. The implementation of the nerve tissue segmentation platform is intruduced on two aspects that one is design of algorithm and the other is the development of platform. On the aspect of algorithm design, the introduction is divided into three parts: Firstly global introduction of all existing image segmentation methods are presented. Secondly, the specific implementation principle of Live-Wire algorithm and Three-dimensional region growing algorithm are described in detail in this paper. Thirdly, we develop a new combination of the two algorithms after analyzing the two algorithms of their respective advantages and disadvantages, as well as characteristics of nerve tissue. The implementation of the new algorithm is that the boundary conditions gained from Live-Wire algorithm is added to the region grow algorithm, and the final segmentation result come out by gradually amending the result from observation intermediate results. On the aspect of platform development, the design and development of the segmentation platform based on this algorithm is described in detail. In this paper the feasibility of the algorithm is demonstrated in theory, and through experiments we prove it and gain more satisfactory results. At present, there is no segmentation algorithm for nerve tissue, so this platform can help medical staffs to resolve clinical problems, and also can promote the development of medical research and education training.
