As the remarkable development of computer network technology, Internet has come to pervade every aspect of our lives and society, and play more and more roles. Especially, as the maturation and applications of IPv6, WLAN and VoIP, new direction has come forth in computer network. On one hand, network unceasingly extend in a wider scope, and its complexity upgrade to a higher grade or standard; on the other hand, network has embodied a higher derivatives, and put forward a higher demand for flexibility and expansibility. The weightiness of network management has increasingly enhanced, because it has become the important part in network system. Network management system plays an important role in high efficiency and providing satisfactory service to consumers. At the same time, the development of network management system gradually becomes a decisive factor in evolution of network technology.Recently, most of network management systems are based on simple network management protocol (SNMP). Traditional network management of SNMP, however, is based on Manage/Agent (Server/Client) model, which presents a host of disadvantage to completeness, flexibility and scalability. Especially, the centralized network management mode gradually can't meet the demand to network when the scale of network as extended at a striking speed.As a potential agent technology, mobile agent technology has a characteristic of mobility and aptitude, and its combine with network management technology can remarkably increase flexibility and scalability. This technology has a fundamental improvement in contrast with traditional centralized SNMP network management.The thesis has deeply researched the technology of mobile agent, put forward mobile agent combined network management, and then made the whole system design, performance management design. This mobile agent combined management not only overcomes the shorting comings of traditional SNMP but also give attention to the universality of SNMP and the superiority of mobile agent, which improve the network management performance, practicability and adaptability. The thesis has used Aglet of IBM as the platform to implement the design.At last the thesis has made a comparison between SNMP and the mobile agent based one on system response time and bandwidth consumption. A conclusion was drawn that this model has such advantages as shorter response time, less bandwidth consumption than the initial one, as proved via simulation and comparative analysis.
