Many key technologies are involved in the digital museum research fields such as data standards, data description language, human computer interaction, virtual realities, multimedia information management and content management. In the past, the digital museums were mostly information systems for the purpose of management of movable cultural relics, and they have different data standards. This makes sharing and utilizing the information of these museums become difficultly. To build a universal metadata model as a data standard is an effective means to solve the problem. And because of the significance of ontology in semantic web, it makes effective information retrieval be possible. Since there was already a lot of work about the digital museum for movable cultural relic, this paper is aiming at the design and implementation of domain ontology model of digital museum for immovable cultural relic. My work is as follows:(1) Analyzing the requirement of the immovable cultural relic, and confirm the classified manner about the semantic information. To combine with CIDOC CRM standard, build semantic structure to describe the semantic information of immovable cultural relic. At the same time, build a geographical ontology to describe the geographical information of immovable cultural relic.(2)Because of the limitation of CIDOC CRM in the abilities of geographical information for immovable cultural relic description, this paper presents a novel ontology model for digital museum of immovable cultural relic, which integrated the CIDOC CRM and geographical ontology together.(3)Based on the proposed model, we designed a digital museum of immovable cultural relic that is based on Struts (a J2EE framework), and embedded the proposed model into database. Besides semantic and geographical information browsing, it also provides a correlative retrieval way based on semantic. And the feasibility of the model is validated.
