Realization Of PIM-SM Multicast Routing Protocol On Linux

The request that people use multimedia is increasing with the develop of technology of Internet , network business and multicast. It is required to abstract and analyze for keeping from decreasing of network function. So it is very important that we utilize the muticast network.The field of network management is very wide, including malfunction management, fee management, configuration management, performance management and security management. And among of them , the performance management is very important and also is the most neglected part of the network management. The traditions network communication technique includes two ways . One is anycast, the oter is broadcast. The two ways is not good ways.The application of the network is becoming more and more complicated, such as VOD, Video game, IP phone etc. instead of WWW, FTP, TELNET etc. the new application of the network would beget great influence about the comprising of network traffic and the feature of network behavior.PIM—SM is a multicast routing protocol provide multicast routing information for multicast data forwarding, which does not dependent on any particular unicast routing protocol. This paper analyses the principle and advantages of IP multicasting communication, provides the key technologies for design and implementation of multicast network based on PIM—SM, and lists network configuration.The first part of this article give the background and newest international research at the same time introduce the tendency. The second part introduce the concept of network multicast. The third part give the procedure of PIM-SM. The forth part is the most important part of the article, and through analyzing the actual data, giving the protocol distribution, packet size distribution, time distribution etc. The fifth part is the end of the article.High speed and broad band multieast router based on Linux becomes a hot topic that people aye studying. This paper gives an implementation of IGMP MIB and PIM-SM under Linux. We hope this article can promote the analysis and resource of the multicast network and muticast route protocol.
