Field system, as a main part of the synchronous generator system, affects the safe and steady operation of generators and power systems. With its enlargement of scale, more and more complex structure and running modes, it becomes necessary that the field system has better performance, higher reliability, better economical efficiency and flexibility. According to the developing trend of excitation controller of both domestic and outside China, TMS320F2812 DSP excitation controller for synchronous generator is researched and developed in this paper.In this paper, firstly, the history, feature and application area of digital excitation controller are introduced. Secondly,current development trend of the research situation domestic and foreign for excitation controller of synchronous generator is put forward. Then the system structure and design methods of the IGBT field system based on TMS320F2812 digital signal processor are presented.On the basis of a detailed elaboration to power chip IGBT and control chip TMS320F2812, the method of main hardware design and software realization are presented. Then, such work as design of IGBT main loop, design of IGBT protection circuit and drive unit, is fulfilled. For the design of excitation controller, the schematic diagram of hardware and the flowchart of the software are presented. And with them, the fast AC sampling, frequency measurement, PID control rule, PWM control power and function of system protection and so on are realized in one chip, which fully take the advantage of TMS320F2812, such as high performance processing capabilities, plenty of peripherals on chip and high real time control and so on. Adoption of TMS320F2812 makes the excitation controller have simpler structure, stronger anti-jamming capability and higher stablility.Finally, to confirm the validity and controlling effect of designed excitation, every unit of field control system model is designed in the platform of MATLAB/SIMULINK. The simulation result that the synchronous generator IGBT field control system based on TMS320F2812 is proved to have the features of quick response, sensitive control, excellent control function, and etc.
