The relationship between BBC and Government is always complicated. Many scholars debate whether BBC can persist in the conception of Public Broadcasting, and keep independence from Government to serve public. As a matter of fact, under the most circumstances, BBC behaves much better than the other West media; it is always criticized by government for its reports which conflict with government intention. So it is the research point of this paper to review the reason for BBC independence.After the World WarⅡ, a series of material incidents aroused confliction between BBC and the government, such as the H-bomb Incident of England, the Suez Canal Crisis, the Falkland Islands War, the Iraq War etc. Among these incidents, the Kelly event resulted from Falkland Islands War and Iraqi war had fully reflected the report way of BBC which is independent to government. The H-bomb Incident reflected the internal political issue; the Suez Canal Crisis dealt with the influence contention of England in foreign countries. The two events indicate that BBC degree to government's compromise in the certain.It is proved that, BBC would bend to governmental pressure while taking"national interest"and"party government"into consideration under specific circumstance, its independence will also be affected. Although this kind of situation is extremely rare, it also proves that news freedom would never be the absolute freedom.As public broadcast television media, BBC is an unofficial organization, the government does not have the right to carry on the direct control to BBC by no means. The government affects BBC mainly depend upon several indirect ways. Under few situations, the government can intervene BBC through"low conspiracy", namely to realizes intervenes BBC internal affair in directly, unofficial method.
