In recent years, along with multiplication of the popular culture life and unceasing innovation of the digital specific technology, the cartoon culture began to prosper with appearance of 3DMAX animation, Flash animation, Holographic animation and so on. As a new industry the three-dimensional animation already has a substantial scale. But in China it is still at the initial stage and there is a big gap to the foreign countries. In the three-dimensional animation production process, there are many problems. First in terms of hardware, production of the three-dimensional animation can't be done without the high-performance computer. Although the PC has had remarkable improvement in the speed and the storage capacity, but the graphics workstations have better performance than PC. Second in terms of software, many role designs centralize in the two-leg beasts' pace design. The head-based role design is usually about using a few simple moves, which means users can only use the existing moves to complete the design and it prove to be difficult to design their own head moves. So the head design is too simple. Therefore, it is very important of the design of the three-dimensional heads. The paper adopts the image recognition technique to identify the flat surface picture, increase the efficiency of recognition through the establishment of activity edge table storage identification data, extract outlines of the portrait as the basis of the three-dimensional modeling; use the three-dimensional modeling technology to generate the simple three-dimensional model according to the outlines, advance a local curvature of the largest tracking algorithm; adopt the three-dimensional head mesh subdivision technique to subdivide the simplified 3D model. In order to make the three-dimensional model more realistic, use the paste technique to generate three-dimensional map for a portrait. This method to design the three-dimensional head portrait can reduce the workload of design creation consumedly and may obtain vivid three dimensional head picture we need.
