Photonic crystal fiber (PCF for short) is a new class of optical fiber developed in recent years, due to its special structure and light propagation mechanism, it performs superiorly to common fibers in many aspects, and it presents wide application prospects in the field of optical communication.In the dissertation, we analyze the structure traits of PCF and its applications in quantum communication. In chapter one, the structure principle and manufacture methods of photonic crystal are summarized, and we introduce the development of photonic crystal instruments in recent years as well. In chapter two, we discuss the endlessly single mode operation, dispersion properties, nonlinear effect, dual-refraction properties of PCF. In addition, we introduce various research methods of PCF such as effective refraction method, finite element method, plane wave method, etc al. In chapter three, the concept and basic theory of finite element method are expounded, the fundamental formulas and solution methods are given. In chapter four, first we discuss the thought of using finite element method to study PCF model and the calculation flow of finite element method business software named femlab, which includes establishing geometry model, confirming basic parameters and boundaries, producing subdomains, separating, solving problems and post transacting; then we analyze the related properties of PCF according to the simulation results. In chapter five, we discuss the application of PCF in quantum communication, we summarize the principle ,process and the results of the existing experiments which use four wave mixing in PCF to produce correlated photon pairs, and the structure of the correlated photon pairs experiment system designed by our lab is given as well.
