Virtual instrument is a special equipment with visual interfaces based on computer related hardware and software. It completes instrument control, data analysis and display, and other functions on the designed virtual instrument panel with the help of a software developed platform. It has changed the manner in which traditional instruments operated. Since the advent of LabVIEW advocated by NI Company, virtual instrument technology bas been widely applied into many areas.An automatic testing system for motor is developed based on virtual instrument technology and LabWindows/CVI integration developing platform in this thesis. It implements motor testing, such as type testing and predelivery testing, and some relating functions, such as data acquisition, testing controlling, real time display, data storage and analysis. The testing precision and efficiency are greatly increased. The main contents of this paper are as follows:Firstly, requirements and key factors for virtual instrument and motor testing are analyzed and various testing items are classified from some points in practices, such as the physical quantities needed to collected, data structures, test processing requirements and so forth. According to the above classification, a module-based software design plan is determined. Then testing data and their mutual relationships are analysis at length, and functional models for different modules of the virtual instrument system software are also built up.Secondly, an automatic testing system for motor is developed under LabWindows/CVI developing platform, concerning some key testing items of type testing and pre-delivery testing. Some main modules in the system are elaborated to achieve the desired goals. Besides, some key and difficult problems for virtual instrument designing are discussed, e.g. the collection of data, data preservation technology and data processing method and et al. Meanwhile, some conventional laboratory test items for electrical motor are done and some testing data are given as examples to show how the system is running.Finally, some testing experiment, two special testing, three-phase short-circuit and voltage harmonic analysis, as two typical example of unconventional testing items, are presented, and the related data acquisition and processing methods as well as the software modules for the motor testing virtual instrument are researched and developed. Testing data show the feasible and effective of the proposed virtual system.
