The existing Internet is based on ipv4 protocols, so far nearly 30 years of history. Since the fast fierce development of Internet, the limitation of ipv4 is more and more obvious, especially the ipv4 address space will face the risk of the exhaustion. The emergence of ipv6 resolved the problem of address shortage do once and for all. And comparing to the ipv4 the ipv6 has many other advantages, such as service quanlity, mobility, safety and so on. Though the ipv6 has many advantages, it is impractical that the conversion from the ipv4 to the ipv6 in one night, because of the restrictions of many factors and conditions. The transition from ipv4 to ipv6 which need quite a long course, During this period, we must assure the interoperability between ipv4 and ipv6.This thesis rearches the existing transition technique to put forward a mothod of access to Network, the goal of is to make use of the existing ipv4 network infrastructure to resovle the communication problem among the isolated ipv6 networks, and to resolve the ipv4 and the ipv6 interoperability problem. The solution proposed in this thesis is to adopt the method of the combination of tunnel technology and dual-stack technology. The tunnel technology can resolve communication problem among the isolated ipv6 networks through the existing ipv4 networks infrastructure, and the dual-stack technology can resolve the interoperability problem between ipv4 networks and ipv6 networks. Meanwhile, the thesis puts forward the idea of the dual-stack agent server. The design of the whole project is based on Theoretical research and analysis. Through the experiments, it is known that the solution is feasible and its advantages are easy operation, less expenditure, low hardware equipments demands. The thesis makes some attempts and discussions for the transition between ipv4 to ipv6 based on the situation that don't change the existing facilities to accomplish the communication and interoperability between ipv4 and ipv6, especially for small ipv6 net carrys on through an existing network infraconstruction, and the ipv4 and the ipv6 network of comunicaition problem.
