Video monitoring system is one of new arising high-tech application fields,It spans many subjects including computer science, machine vision, image engineering, pattern analysis, artificial intelligence, etc. It has been widely applied in security monitoring, production process monitoring, monitoring of residential areas and other areas because of its remoteness.The research of embedded system is becoming the hot issue in the industry and control field ,with the character of small volume,high real-time,stable, and transfering data in the Ethernet. The embedded multi-media monitoring system is becoming a more important part of monitoring system. Among lots of video standards, MPEG-4 can achieve DVD-class video quality of which the data stream amount is much lower than MPEG-2, the embedded video monitoring system based on MPEG-4 which has high definition,stable character will have broadly applied prospects.In the paper ,the multimedia platform ADSP-BF561 EZ-KIT Lite board produced by ADI is select to realize the realtime decoding of MPEG-4, the emphasize is to design and optimize the MPEG-4 SP decoder of ADSP-BF561 Detection and recognition for motion object is the most important component in the monitoring system, considering the character of embedded system, the paper provides an efficient approach to fast detecting and tracking motion object with static camera based on eigenvalue of video images and combining the features of inter-frame difference. The result shows that this method is fast and practical in detection and recognition for motion object and will have broadly applied prospects.
