Nowadays, broadband wireless access system plays a more and more important role in the communication market. BWA, which provide a convenient and efficient way to access to the backbone communication network, becomes the main aspect, in this area. IEEE Standard 802.16, with its WirelessMAN? air interface, sets the stage for widespread and effective deployments worldwide. This paper's research work focuses on the channel coding and decoding in IEEE802.16 broadband wireless access system.This thesis introduces the framework of broadband wireless access (BWA) system, and describes the coding scheme of PHY in IEEE802.16. We adopt the concatenated Reed-Solomon/(block) convolutional code which can correct random errors and burst errors simultaneously. This paper mainly introduces the coding and decoding algorithm of RS code, convolutional code and block convolutional code (BCC). It gives the decoding algorithm of BCC which is improved on Viterbi algorithm. The performance of concatenated codes is analysis through Simulink simulation. Finally, this paper gives the implement of BCC coding and decoding based on FPGA.
