ABSTRACT: As embedded systems are widely used in many fields,the research and development on embedded systems becomes more and more important.In 1990's,ARM 32-bit RISC microprocessor extended to the whole world,occupying the leading position in embedded systems fields.At present,ARM microprocessor is widely used in communication,industry control and security fields.Linux is very suitable for acting as the operation system in embedded system development, attributed to its multiple hardware platforms supporting, opencores, mini kernel, network supporting and highly modularized features.uClinux is a branch of Linux, exclusively designed for CPU without MMU(Memory Management Unit). uClinux is more and more commonly used as embedded operation system for its small size and low cost.This subject is mainly about the embedded uClinux system development and research based on S3C2510A microprocessor of Samsung company. This subject is finished on a practical basis, including establishing the development environment of embedded uClinux, developing the device driver programs and studying the ATM device driver of S3C2510A in deep. The study includes analysing the S3C2510A's support to ATM protocols, the operating principles of S3C2510 SAR, UTOPIA interface and the design of ATM device driver programs. These have a practical meaning in developing a network router supporting ATM protocols.
