Holographic displays are always a researched focal point, because they enable people to enjoy the exquisite details of object and feel the lifelike three-dimensional image. Color holograms are more beautiful than monochromatic holograms, therefore, they have wider application prospect.In this paper, a new method of making color hologram has been proposed in DCG. The method is developed based on the fact that the reconstruction wavelength of a DCG hologram tends to shift to a factor of 20% than the recording wavelength due to the swelling of the emulsion layer.First, this paper summarizes the progress of color holography in the recent forty years. Manifold making methods of color holography are introduced, including plane color holography, color rainbow holography and color reflection holography.Then, from the coupled wave theory, the internal stripe structure, the affection of expanding and shrinking of recording materials, the diffraction efficiency, the peak wavelength and band-width are researched..Next, properties of DCG and the mechanism of hologram formation are presented. The influence on DCG holograms of thickness of the emulsion layer, bias hardness , concentration of DCG , technique of DCG plate, exposure and developing procedure are detail discussed. Before the exposure, the surface of the object were coated with paints according to the reflection effect we expected. And making procedure of color reflection hologram is given. Successful experimental results are also presented.
