Since its birth in the late 1960's,electronica news magazine has become a fixedprogram genre in the prime time schedual of American television, and it is a typicalin-depth news report format. The traditional three networks have their own mostfamous electronica news magazines, for instance,"60 Minutes" of CBS,"Dateline" ofNBC,"20/20" of ABC. In the three most famous news magazines, "20/20" makesitself be different from the other two, because of its particular focus audience——young audience ,and its focus content ——popular culture. This paper adopts communication as its theory foundation, and makes its structurein the use of the classical theory of communication ,namely, the theory of "5W".Idivide this paper into 5 sections. In the first section,I introduce the naissance of thiselectronica news magazine genre and the general situation of "20/20";In the secondsection,I use the study method of content analysis to analyse the ways how to choosethe situable subjects to report in "20/20";The main content of the third section iscontrol analysis,I used the "gatekeeper" theory to study anchors' functions, especiallythe style of Barbara Walters who is the creator of style in the whole program; In thefourth section, the main content is media analysis, concretely, how to use the theory ofagenda setting to make the program better and how to express its agenda in a usefulway; The main subjects of the fifth section are audience analysis and communicationeffect analysis.I combine audience analysis with communication effect analysis tostudy because they are connected, to some extent.I not only analyse the reasons why itchoose young audience as its focus audience, but also study the communication effectin two ways, which are ratings and audiences' attitude.
