With the fast developing of our city, the load grows quickly and the customer needs high quality power. As the important infrastructure of the city, reconstructing and expanding the power grid happens daily.The purpose of power grid planning is upgrade the power supply ability and power quality to satisfy our customer's need with appropriate invest. Planning of the grid is important to guide the construction and improve its reliability. Therefore using computer technology to make the planning correct and in time is necessary.At present, the information systems deal with power grid planning have many problem. Such as, the basis data of other system is not ready for the business, facilities, network topology and load information of existing system is not shared, most power grid planning system can only running on single computer which can not satisfy the need of cooperation, decision making mostly depend on experts experience, expert algorithm was not well-rounded, and so on.GIS technology, which developed quickly in recent years, gives us a new method to develop information system of power grid planning. In this paper, The power grid planning system that utilize the computer network, share the information of SCADA, Customer Information System (CIS), Production Management System (PMS), explore new mathematics model, help the user planning based on GIS technology, space load-forecast and decision making will be discussed. The system will help the power supply company to allocate power substation appropriate, bring great economic benefit with limited investment and improve its planning level.
