With rapid development of large scale integrated circuit and microcomputer, modern digital system has now computerized.The introduction of microcomputer, on one hand, has greatly enhanced the capacity of the whole system, making it capable of accomplishing many complicated tasks; on the other hand, however, it brings about some new problems, for instance, traditional testing equipment (oscilloscope, etc. ) can no longer effectively detect and analyze digital system, especially microcomputer system. Therefore, the electronic measuring instruments are developed from classical instruments to intelligent, automatic, and virtual instrument. Especially, test bench or system based on interface bus and personal computer, as its characteristics of high performance, flexibility and low-cost, is focused on recently. On the basis of above mentioned, this paper discusses the research and design of the hardware and software of virtual logic analyzer.Firstly, after analyzing the functions of virtual logic analyzer in detail, the design tasks and the main design principles of hardware and software are proposed in this paper.Secondly, the paper discussed the EDA technology and its design methods, virtual instrument technology and graphical language programming, and the basic characteristics and the realization methods of PCI bus respectively, prepared for constructing virtual logic analyzer.The design and implementation of hardware and software is the core of this paper.
