| In this paper, based on the studying of basic structure and working principle of the fault diagnosis expert system, combining with the technology of modern computer software and network, a process of the research on fault diagnosis system and its theory and technical problems are summarized. Some concrete problems about technology of fault diagnosis in the system are discussed, the concrete method that how to set up a repository is given in pertinence; it is also discussed that the problems of technology of remote fault diagnosis. Based on the studies, a whole remote fault diagnosis expert system which compiling by Visual Basic is given, and the system has already applied in practice.The work in this paper includes: (1) describe the whole remote fault diagnosis expert system generally; explain the hardware and software structure of the system; describe the working flow of the system software, introduce each module of the system in detail. (2) analyze and describe the communication problems between personal computer and control system PLC and the control system of generator of the equipment (a system of refrigeration), discuss the communication protocol and detailed technology problems between RS232 interface of PC and program port of PLC as emphases, and give the instanced program of the communication. (3) introduce the principle that how to search and ratiocinate fault by system, discuss the basic structure and the maintenance of the system repository. (4) discuss the application method that how to diagnose the fault cooperating with remote, and give the source code of the data transmit by network.With the development of the technology and the complication of the structure of the equipment, fault diagnosis of the equipment becomes more and more difficult, in many occasions, single manual work can not get content effect.
