Research On Key Techniques Of Animation For Flow Visualization

An urgent demand for studying and developing theory, techniques and methods for ocean information visualization have been brought up since Data Ocean Project is included in the China's Tenth Five-year Plan and the 2015 national Ocean Science and Technology Development Plan. This paper addresses three key techniques in ocean information visualization and present the author's study results about them. The first key technique is ocean application oriented rendering dense and zoom smooth isolines using planar scattered data. The author addresses the issue of rendering dense and zoom smooth isolines using planar scattered data and an algorithm for this is presented.The second key technique is steady flow animation. Generally, it is difficult to fully descript the direction and velocity variety of flow field in a static picture, because it could only descript static information. But the technology of flow animation can solve this problem perfectly, not only dramatic but also accurate. Because it is a dynamic picture, it moves along the flow direction, so we can find out the character of flow field easily. The technology of flow animation is an effect tool for research of ocean flow and atmosphere flow. It is also an active method for description of flow field. We could display the character of flow field completely in this method and then accelerate the research speed of ocean flow and atmosphere flow. Sometime we need to master the motion of the flow and the difference of velocity in different region. In this condition, the technology of flow animation is the best research tool.The third key technique is the integration of flow animation and virtual reality. This is development of flow animation. To model the virtual environment of ocean, to animate the ocean flow, and to abstract the characters of ocean flow, all of them are in motion.The three key techniques make up of the author's main contribution. And the last two research items are originalities in China: firstly using flow animation technique on ocean flow analysis.
