With the computer popularizing and meeting necessity of office information, it isessential to have that the computer is saving the drawing by the paper of traditionalmedia. The computer images by scanning the drawing are bit map, but for severaltrades such as geological, architectural, city planning and so on, they are willing touse vector graph to save those images what is smaller for using special, elementindependent and easy to modify. Therefore, what converting from bit map that istraditional and saving by lattice to vector graph that is by basic information is thegeneral requirement for those trades.The almost current software at vectorization for geologic map are extracting only byeach element, instead of by the whole. Then those elements what need to beassociated with digital label ,as the contour line , the oil well and so on, are differentfrom the number .So on the one hand the information that being extracted is lack ofcompleteness, and on the other hand the following operation don't work well.However, it needs the user to select as doing with crossing line, leading to decreaseefficiency.In the paper, the research fully on the current features and requirements ofvectorization procedure for geologic map, and making mode recognition incombination with vectorization procedure for geologic map, then advancing a newidea and algorithm for the vectorization for geologic map. First of all, classifying theextracting curve and merging into the same contour line .Then with the moderecognition for the information of curve, and judging if it is the contour line andextracting as a whole. When it is meeting the crossing point ,it can extend rectangle tocover the cross point, at the same time judging the type of cross point and the trackdirection .Mainly being used for solution for extracting information completely andselecting the correct direction as the curved line meets with the cross point. So thatextracting information of geologic map and combining with other software very well.In the paper, then on basis of theory researching, I develop a demo program in the VBdevelopment environment. I mainly demonstrate extracting the curve, tracking step bystep, and how to do extension rectangle and select correctly direction as the curvemeeting with the cross point.
