In this thesis, the main objective is to research and implement theRTP/RTCP protocols that are used to transport real-time multimediainformation within Internet. At the beginning, we analyze the demand ofthe transmission of real-time multimedia information on network and thecapabilities and problems of the communication network that is used totransport real-time multimedia information. To deal with the problem,some new methods and new technologies are explained in detail, such asdata compression, stream media technology, and network protocols. After that, the focus is put on the network protocols. Severalnetwork protocols, such as TCP, UDP, RTP/RTCP, are analyzed andcontrasted thoroughly. Subsequently, these protocols' concepts,mechanism, strengths and their flaws are also described clearly. Bycontrast, we found that the RTP protocol is very suitable for thetransmission of the real-time data. Delay estimation and synchronization control are two importantaspects of the real-time data transmission. In this thesis, we take RTP asthe transport protocol. These two concepts are also delved theoretically. Finally, a real-time video transmission system over RTP/RTCPprotocols based on digital video platform is brought forward andillustrated. It is proved that the system used to transport video is veryeffective over RTP/RTCP.
