The Research And Design Of Multi-function Gateway Based On The Network Processor

The author takes part in the key foundation project of science and technology of Fujian province that named "the IPsec VPN based on the IXP2400". Based on this research work, the author combines theory with practice and puts forward an implement of multi-function gateway base on the network processor-IXP2400. As the most common network device, the gateway is the "gateway" to the Internet for all kinds of networks. It connects different networks and processes a great deal of data between them. The performance of the gateway is directly related to the quality of network communication among the users. The traditional gateways are mostly based on ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit). But this solution brings a good performance at the cost of loss in flexibility. The most important request for network application is that a network device should meet the requirement brought by the new protocol and new business. Therefore, the flexibility to traditional gateway, which is brought by the introduction of network processor, plays an important role. Base on the advantage of NP on flexibility, this paper puts forward an implement of multi-function gateway based on NP which achieve the goal of address filter, IPv4 forward and data security. This paper firstly illustrates the basic theory of NP and specifies the advantage of gateway implemented by NP. Then this paper analyzes the basic facts of traditional gateway , especially the traditional multi-function gateway. And it shows the architecture and the key technology of multi-function gateway based on NP. At last, this paper puts forward the implement of multi-function gateway based on NP. In addition, the deployment and workflow of this gateway is included in this paper.
