For fingerprint has characteristics such as uniqueness, invariability and inseparability, which make it to a reliable degree, so more and more automatic fingerprint identification system (AFIS) enter into people's life and work. AFIS plays a more important role in electronic consumption, safety dependence, and e-commerce system etc. Embedded structure is already used in AFIS at large, but most of them can't interconnect the networks or use RS232, RS485 to networking. Not only the data transfer rate is very low, but also field of application is limited. So to research and develop an embedded fingerprint identification system based on Ethernet, it will improve the data transfer rate when AFIS is working in networks and enlarge the field of its application. This thesis mainly introduces some basic conceptions of embedded footprints identification system concerning intranet, together with the principles of some Functional modules, designing cases and experimental methods. This thesis emphasized on footprints identification algorithm (especially match algorithm) and the realization procedure of software and hardware on TMS33320VC5402 platform. What is also introduced is the whole procedure from case selection to the designing of software and hardware of embedded Ethernet interface module. It concisely narrates the communication methods between footprints identification module with DSP as its core and the network interface module with C8051F022 as it core, and the communication methods between system and network (LAN/WAN). This thesis also displays the flow charts and circuit diagram of part of the software of the whole system. Field operations and experiments indicate that the system can work effectively and its hardware and software designs are correct. Networked through the monolithic processor to realize the system in which each controller can be managed long-distance, dynamic and real time so as to meet the requests of reliability, security and manageability. This system incorporates the technology of fingerprint recognition, memory technology of data, embedded technology of DSP and monolithic processor and network technology into an organic whole. Adopting the popular open system structure, it can interconnect with administrative system and other equipment easily so realize the high degree of integration of users'system. This research makes a good foundation for the production domesticization and localization of identity recognition system based on fingerprint verification, and it has good market and industrialization prospects.
