Endoscopy is the diagnostic and therapeutic method, which can allows physicians to peer through the body's passageways and makes an examination and inspection of the interior body organs, joints or cavities. It is widespread used for clinical diagnosis and treatment mainly because of the minimally invasive procedure and carrying with it certain minor risks. On the other hand, in view of the difficult operation manner, the inexperienced physicians are likely to misknow the direction in process of operation so as to add the danger to the patients and make them be more dissatisfied and pain. Even though there are many technologies on endoscopy training at present, all of them are very expensive and unpractical. The traditional training courses only limit to simulator operating and animal experiment, thus the former mode is excessively simple and the other mode is so hard to popularize for the restricted human and material resources.VR (Virtual Reality) technology has been used widely on pilots training. Recently, it has been adopted in the endoscopy training as well. Using the VR to achieve endoscopy emulation may enhance the effects of endoscopy operation training, shorten the training time period and reduce the training expenses. However, most traditional endoscopy emulation system provide an emulation interface only to simulate and display the real scene of the operation and are good at directions distinguishing abilities improvement, but they cannot do any help in the training of the co-ordination of eyes and hands. In addition, popular research on virtual endoscopy system recently just provides virtual inner organization, which is reconstructed from 3D medical tomographic images to replace traditional endoscopy examinations. But through this kind of method, we cannot extract live organization for pathologic check or do some treatments, for example, hemostasis, ablating polypus, calculus removing, etc. The real endoscopy operation can do more than X-ray examination, isotope scanning, and virtual endoscopy examination can do. Up to now, clinical has to use traditional real endoscopy to make operation for patients.This paper introduces a virtual endoscopy training system, which applies the technology of VR (Virtual Reality). It briefly discusses how to reconstruct the 3D model of alimentary canal from many medical tomographic images using the computer 3D visualization technology, explains the work principle of its operation signal gatheringdevices and feedback force controlling devices, and describes the mass-spring/damper simulation model used in the emulation software to emulate the model change and to calculate the feedback force, and finally we implement to simulate the.process of the real endoscopy operation. Combining the real endoscopy machines with varieties of electromechanical controlling methods, we provide the green-hands a more real endoscopy operation-training environment where they can feel the whole operation through eyes, ears and touches. The optical fiber training handle will give the trainees real feeling about the real operation. With the simulating software of different training models, trainees will experience diversities of trainings. And with the rational training schemes, trainees will master operation skills and improve their practical operation ability by repeatedly exercises on the system, which furnishes not only with virtual scenes, but also with real operation feelings.
