With the fast development of information & network technology, being the footstone of the Internet, TCP/IP protocol family is processing an unprecedented transformation. The cause of the transformation is that IPv4 protocol emerging more and more deficiencies when it confronts the development of the Internet. To resolve these deficiencies, people put forward that using IPv6 to replace IPv4. But, problem remains to be solved that how to implement smooth transition from IPv4 to IPv6, and how to implement IPv6 network constructing based upon existing IPv4 network. This dissertation will focus on upper problems to run the research work.Firstly, the author collected and analyzed the latest stuffs about IPv6 protocol and IPv6 transition at home and abroad, researched its new characteristics, then analyzed and compared three familiar transition methods, Dual Stack, Tunnel and IPv6/IPv4 Protocol Translation & Address Translation. Secondly, author run IPv6 experiment research on different computer platforms. On this course, author adopt the idea that taking thing by their smooth handle and being established in practice thing to move the process selectively. Then after completed former course, and combined with the status of Nanchang University IPv4 Campus network, author carried on the planning and constructing of IPv6 experimental network of Nanchang University. Thirdly, after analyzed the traits of campus network, author put forward transition strategy to next generation network centering on IPv6. Then, taken the case of Nanchang Umversity Campus network, author discussed how to further deploy IPv6 on campus platform, and analyzed which applications will be of great advantage to IPv6's large-scale extending.Hope the dissertation can perform some quotable function to IPv6's constructing and applications' deploying in campus network.
