With the development of the society and the increasing quantity of the vehicles, traffic jam becomes more and more seriously, monitoring the state of road traffic in real time has been significant for us to collect traffic flow information, standardize the management of traffic ,city layout and so on.The traffic flow measurement, which means to acquire the traffic flow parameters by some means in a limited time.The parameters include macro and micro one, such as vehicle volume, average speed, spatial occupancy etc. Traffic flow measurement is the key part of the traffic management. This thesis gives a traffic flow measurement system based on DSP, by using the DSP/BIOS and utilizing the computer to deal with the picture, to imitate people's vision function. The system consists of industrial control computer and DSP real-time sampling cards, by means of video capture, image processing, image compressing and data upload, it can perform traffic parameter gathering. This thesis gives a novel traffic flow measurement algorithm based on video technology is brought forward to settle this problem. In the thesis the performance of some arithmetic based on virtual loop are analyzed in detail, and some of them are applied to our system selectively and synthetically, combined with other image process technology. As a real-time operation system for the developing of TI's TMS320C6000 DSPs, DSP/BIOS has displayed readability, flexibility and the ability to migrate. It brings the developers of DSP great convenience. This paper discusses the kernel technology of scheduling of multi-thread, the communication among tasks,real-time analysis tools, chip support library, etc. By using some programming rules, the realization of these a]gorithms does not directly interface with the hardware, which improves the reusable of algorithms,also improves the system integrating process. In addition the thesis does a research on several key technology of DSP programming, especially the software optimizing method and DSP/BIOS optimizing method, which not only determines whether the system can work normally, but also the real-time character. Such debugging course and solutions can offer reference to late research and application of DSP.
