In the 1930's and 1940's, China was in the state of being united in form , but suffering the serious domestic trouble and foreign invasion in fact. Domestically, China was tortured not only by the long-term confrontation between Guomindang Party and Communist party, but also the struggle and wars inside the Party of Guomingdang. In terms of the foreign affairs, Japan was invading and plundering China drastically. Consequently, the development of economy in China was slowed down and hindered. Chinese people led a painful and hopeless life for they had to go through the terrible chaos of war and turbulence. To save China and build a democratic country definitely became the strongest voices of intellects during that period. Naturally, the liberalistic media became the forum and front for liberalist to advocate democracy and liberty. After getting through some tuff trials, such as the protest for democratic politics in the early and mid years of 1930s, two dynamic movements concerning constitutional government and the triumph of anti-Japanese war, the liberalistic media made much more endeavour to appeal to both parties (the Party of Guomindang and Communist Party) to fulfill the dream of establishing a democratic country jointly. However, with the irreversible political situation, the dream of constructing a democratic and free China ended up in a tragedy. The reasons for this tragedy lie in the historical inevitability and it's own limitation and weakness. Regardless of the tragic result, the trying efforts done by the liberalistic intellects and media did accelerate the process of democratization in China. And it is worthy of concluding and learning its feats and experience.
