Modern news media plays a double role in social life: to maintain public interests, and to obtain commercial benefits. As a public product, news media is of publicity, and therefore it should maintain public interests. Meanwhile, as an industry, it has to acquire commercial interests. The relationship between public and commercial interests of news media is rather complicated. The two types of interests can contradict each other, check each other, A successful news media can always find the optimal combination of the two through minimizing their contradiction and conflict and balancing well their relationship. The present thesis first analyzes theoretically the feasibility of balancing the two types of interests and then discusses how to make public interests and commercial interests of a news media well balanced from an operative level, more specifically, from a multi-perspective of journalism theory, journalism practice and media management.
