The Design And Implementation Of XML-Based MARC Publishing System

This paper first briefly introduces the generation and development of metadata, as well as the generation, development of MARC and its application in our country. Secondly, it expounds the position and function of MARC metadata. and the problems confronted with the development of MARC and the reform program: describe newly the MARC in XML. This paper designs and implements a publishing system of MARC information resources based on the XML technology, including the three main functions-transformation of MARC to XML, quick searching and presentation. According to the CNMARC, this system creates the CNMARC dictionary base and defined the specification of XML DTD. Accordingly, it analyses and resolves MARC as XML tree. It also implements transformation from the database format of MARC to XML document and data synchronization in the database server. The generality and reusability of this system is good. Therefore, it offers the practical experience and reference for the blend of the Internet and MARC and the creation of the digital library. The research and development of this project has solved the difficulties confronted with the WWW environment and made it possible for the users to search the MARC data by means of WWW browser. It is also possible to integrate the information of MARC and the Internet, and applications of digital library can benefit from it.
