Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) is a new emerging research field with multidisciplinary support. Application sharing is one of the key techniques that support synchronous cooperation in CSCW systems. In recent years, the appearance of newly P2P (Peer-To-Peer) network represented by JXTA Platform arouses the new research subjects for CSCW's development. This paper covers following parts of research and implementation as: Analysis of several existing mechanisms of typical CSCW application sharing and comparison of respective characteristics, advantages and problems, which determines advantages and research goals of JXTA-based application sharing. Design and implementation of a new JXTA-based CSCW application sharing system—JBCAS, along with the design of the architecture and solution of the functions. Design and implementation of communication service module and cooperative working group management module, with a focus on the research and implementation of event control, maintenance of system consistency and continuity. CSCW extensions to the original Java Graphics Develop Toolkit and design of a complete procedure of event processing. Research and solution to the problem of new peer dynamic joining and support of the peer dynamic session status saving. Test of the prototype system and the validation of JBCAS's feasibility and correctness. The research of the project has introduced the new solution of application sharing of CSCW in P2P environment, and provides the application sharing with better consistency, continuity and robustness under JXTA.
