It is an important way to carry out creative design based on reverse engineering in an existing product or part. Some 3D digital equipment, such as a 3D laser scanner or a CT scanner, can generate a huge amount of point cloud data. However, conventional method of manually processing or editing point cloud data is a time-consuming job, point cloud segmentation of computer-aided technique is an important research topic in reverse engineering. This paper aims to study a computer-assisted technology for point cloud segmentation.Firstly, a transformation model of converting point cloud data into 2D digital image is established and the transformation is realized. Secondly, Euclidean distance flow field and GVF field of point cloud are established respectively, traditioanl snake model combined with these two fields separately is applied in the experiments of feature contour matching. Thirdly, the snake contour tracing technique is studied, the extraction of point cloud of the feature contour and the reparation of gap points of mini-structure is also fulfilled applied in the experiments.This paper develops the software of point cloud segmentation based on the ARX technology for AutoCAD secondary development, completes the experiments of point cloud segmentation, and confirmes that the proposed algorithm of point cloud segmentation is effective and robust.
