This thesis is using various types of research methods like statistics, comparison analysis, descriptions and explanations to make multidimensional probe into the five sets of the Chinese text books. In the investigation, I have strived to observe, describe and interpret adequately. The main part of the thesis includes the following four chapters:The first part explains how children use their cognitive psychology to describe and understand pictures. The results are used from brain science research which is also applied it to investigate the thinking processes. Both picture symbols and the symbol of language are discussed vividly. In this chapter the symbol of picture has been summarized simply that has a great effect on Chinese teaching.The second part defines the illustration and the format of The Chinese text books for primary schools. Five sets of Chinese text books of four different publishers are examined in this research. This paper sets up a database which contains all the sight flow line characters of the five Chinese text books, using statistics and comparative analysis to form each index, thus rating the illustrations. The thesis summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of the five sets of the Chinese text books.In the third part, according to the author's experience of years in art design and Chinese teaching, investigation reveals that the art editors' working procedure conflicts with the writing editors' procedure. To meet the needs of the Chinese text books for primary schools, the art editors must set up correct consciousness for long-term benefits. This chapter is filled knowledge on the text books that have been synthetically researched.The fourth part includes the suggestions and makes up of the shortage of its standard rules, looking forward to gaining a significant number of references that are given at the end of this thesis for formatting, editing and designing of illustration of The Chinese text books for primary schools in the future.
